Spring Boot 3 Is Out of Free Support. Upgrade to 4.0 or 4.1? | The Storm Report

Spring Boot 3.5, the last 3.x version, lost free (open-source) support on 30 June 2026. Here's what that means and what to do. → Every Spring Boot minor gets about 13 months of free fixes → 3.5 ended 30 Jun 2026: no more free patches, even for new CVEs (paid support runs to 2032) → Skip 4.0: its free support ends 31 Dec 2026 → Go to 4.1: supported until 31 Jul 2027 → What changes in Boot 4: Java 17+, Spring Framework 7, Jakarta EE 11, Jackson 3 (tools.jackson), spring-boot-starter-webmvc, @MockitoBean instead of @MockBean → The safe path: latest 3.5.x, fix deprecations, then 4.1 and run your tests Dates checked 8 Oct 2026 (source: endoflife.date/spring-boot, based on spring.io's support policy). 📰 The Storm Report: Java and Spring Boot news in 60 seconds.
